WHO COMMITTEE
LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: INTERMEDIATE
The intermediate committees will host a cohort of delegates who wish to further augment their knowledge in MUN after some previous experience. These committees will require substantial research and knowledge of the current events shaping our world, yet will serve as spaces for growth and development in both a personal and collective way.
These committees are recommended for delegates who have engaged in MUN before, and possess a certain level of experience, yet wish to further learn and develop interests in the world of diplomacy and international relations.
INTRODUCTION TO THE COMMITTEE
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations’ organ that works towards accomplishing universal health coverage so all individuals, regardless of race, religion, political beliefs, and/or socioeconomic condition are guaranteed a healthier future. The WHO was established on the 7th of April of 1948, since then the organization’s efforts have had an extraordinary impact on various countries. The WHO has eradicated infectious diseases such as smallpox, partnered with UNICEF to immunize children around the globe by providing vaccines for life-threatening diseases, saved 53 million lives (WHO,2020) due to its efforts in relieving the impact of tuberculosis, provided clean water and sanitation at a global level, amongst other accomplishments. With this said, it becomes evident that the committee has an extremely relevant scope of action as global health becomes a growing concern.
